We will be leading a short, half-day sword workshop at Penticton’s Marina Park on Sunday, October 26th from 1-4 p.m. Our plan is to introduce everyone to the fundamentals of the Wudang staff (gun 棍), beginning with basic stances, strikes, and blocks. We will start into the fundamental techniques that lead to the study of the of the Eight Immortals Staff 八仙棍, the only staff style in our system, exploring its movements, principles, history, and the mythology woven through it all. Attendees will leave having a grasp of the three stances 三姿势, four blocks 四格挡法, and five strikes 五打法. We will also work through the first four partner drills from the Eight Immortals form, from Smooth Current Pushes the Boat 顺水推舟 to Lu Dongbin Proposes a Toast 提杯敬酒!
The workshop will include a handout going over Wudang’s fundamental staff techniques 基本棍法 and the beginning section from the Eight Immortals Staff Manual 八仙棍普.
